Thank you to all of the paddlers, volunteers, NH Lakes Association (NH LAKES) Board members, sponsors, vendors, Festival attendees, Marine Patrol, City of Laconia, and NH LAKES staffers for making today’s Guinness World Record Attempt at LakeFest a whole lot of fun! For its inaugural year, the Guinness World Record attempt was a solid success.  While this first try did not result in worldwide domination, more than 300 paddlers established what we believe to be a New England record for largest free floating raft of canoes and kayaks.  The nonprofit NH Lakes Association was thrilled with the paddlers’ enthusiasm, and excited for the opportunity to educate participants about the new Clean, Drain & Dry! protocol to prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species.  Since 2002, hundreds of paid and volunteer Lake Hosts have conducted more than 505,000 courtesy boat inspections and have made more than 1,256 “saves” of aquatic nuisance plant fragments that were about to enter or had just left a waterbody.  Before they were even off the water, LakeFest paddlers had begun planning their strategy for next year, determined to bring that Guinness World Record to New Hampshire.  Click here to learn more about NH Lakes Association’s work to protect local lakes and watersheds.
